At UAEFinanceGuide.com (“UAE Finance Guide“, “we“, “us“), our goal is to help expatriates in the UAE make smart money decisions with independent, accurate, and useful information. This page explains how our content is created, reviewed, updated, and corrected.
1) Our editorial mission
We publish plain‑English guides and comparisons about bank accounts, credit cards, insurance, taxes, investing, and cost of living for expats in the UAE. Our commitment:
- Editorial independence: Our journalism comes first. Commercial arrangements never buy coverage or change our opinions.
- Clarity & actionability: Checklists, calculators and side‑by‑side comparisons you can use today.
- Transparency: Clear disclosures when compensation is involved. Dates on articles and major updates.
For how we make money, see our Disclaimer & Affiliate Disclosure.
2) Funding & independence
Our website is free to use. We may earn affiliate commissions if you use certain links and we may show display advertising. To protect independence:
- Church & state: Editorial decisions (what we cover, how we rank, and what we say) are separate from commercial decisions (ads, partnerships, affiliate links).
- No pay‑to‑rank: Providers cannot buy a higher score or a positive review.
- Clear labels: Sponsored placements are marked “Sponsored”, “Advertisement” or “Partner Content.” Affiliate links are disclosed within relevant pages.
3) Sourcing standards
We follow Google’s EEAT principles—Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness—and prioritize primary sources:
- Provider documents (tariff sheets, fee schedules, T&Cs, Key Facts Statements, policy wordings).
- Official portals (government and regulators), plus recognized consultancies or industry bodies.
- First‑hand testing where feasible (onboarding flows, app UX, live chat/support experience).
- We link out to sources so you can verify, and we date our pages so you know when they were last updated.
If a claim cannot be verified, we remove it or mark it as editorial opinion.
4) Review methodology & scoring
When we compare products, we use category‑specific criteria. Weightings may vary by guide, but as a rule of thumb:
Credit cards (example weighting)
- Total cost of ownership (APR/profit rate, annual fee, FX fees, late fees) — 35%
- Rewards value (cashback/miles per AED, redemption flexibility, caps) — 30%
- Eligibility & access (salary thresholds, residency docs, onboarding) — 15%
- Benefits (lounge, insurance, offers) — 10%
- Service & support (app quality, dispute resolution) — 10%
Bank accounts (example weighting)
- Fees (monthly, minimum balance, ATM/transfer, FX) — 40%
- Access & convenience (digital onboarding, ATM/branch, app UX) — 25%
- Features (multi‑currency, cards, transfers, budgeting tools) — 20%
- Eligibility & portability for expats — 15%
Insurance (example factors)
- Coverage scope & exclusions, premiums, network, claims process, regulatory standing.
Investments & brokers (example factors)
- Fees, product range, market access, FX costs, tax documentation, custody & safety, user experience.
Notes: We compute scores from normalized sub‑scores; where we cannot obtain sufficient data, we exclude products or mark details as “provider did not disclose”. Our rankings are guides, not advice. Your best choice depends on your situation.
5) Fact‑checking & verification workflow
Every publishable article goes through these steps:
- Research & drafting by a writer using primary sources and interview notes or hands‑on tests where possible.
- Editorial review for clarity, structure, and usefulness to expats.
- Fact‑check of rates, fees, eligibility, and claims against official documents or provider pages.
- Legal & risk sanity checks for regulated terms (e.g., not presenting guidance as advice).
- Final QA: links, tables, accessibility (alt text, heading order), and on‑page disclosures.
For live rate tables, we include timestamps and source labels or automate refreshes where technically feasible.
6) Updates & freshness
- Evergreen guides (e.g., opening a bank account): reviewed at least quarterly or when policy changes occur.
- Rates/fees pages (e.g., credit cards): spot‑checked monthly and refreshed when providers update terms.
- News/alerts: updated as information becomes available.
Each article displays a “Last updated” date. Substantial edits may include an Editor’s note describing what changed.
7) Conflicts of interest
Contributors must disclose any personal or financial relationships with providers discussed. Where a conflict exists, we reassign the coverage or include a disclosure on the page.
We do not accept gifts that could influence coverage. Loaned devices/accounts used for testing do not guarantee positive coverage and are returned/closed after testing where applicable.
8) Advertising, sponsorships & affiliates
- Sponsored articles/placements are clearly labeled at the top and within comparison modules.
- Affiliate links use
rel="sponsored nofollow noopener"and are disclosed within the page. - Ad targeting & cookies follow our Privacy Policy and regional consent requirements. You can manage settings via our cookie banner.
Commercial partners cannot preview or approve our independent editorial content, though we may verify factual product details with providers before publication.
9) User contributions (comments, tips)
We may invite feedback, tips, or user stories. By submitting, you grant us permission to quote or summarize your contribution (with attribution or anonymously, as agreed). We moderate to remove spam, discriminatory content, promotional claims, or unverified allegations.
If you submit personal data with your tip, it will be handled per our Privacy Policy. Do not include account numbers or sensitive information.
10) Use of AI & automation
We may use AI‑assisted tools for ideation, grammar, or formatting. Humans remain responsible for final content: fact‑checking, judgment, and compliance. We do not publish AI‑generated financial advice without human review, and we do not allow AI tools to ingest non‑public user data without safeguards.
11) Accessibility & inclusive language
We aim for WCAG 2.2 AA alignment, readable prose, descriptive link text, and alt text for informative images. We avoid jargon where possible and explain UAE‑specific terms (Ejari/Tawtheeq, Emirates ID, salary transfer, etc.). See our Accessibility Statement.
12) Corrections policy
We take accuracy seriously. If we make a mistake, we fix it.
How to report an error
- Email [email protected] with the page URL, the issue, and any supporting sources.
Our correction types
- Correction: Substantive error (e.g., wrong fee/rate, mis defined eligibility). We update the text and add a note: “Correction (DD Mon YYYY): …”
- Update: Non‑substantive or time‑sensitive addition (e.g., a new promo, clarified wording). We update the Last updated date; an Editor’s note is added when helpful.
- Retraction/Removal: If information is irreparably inaccurate, or we cannot verify it, we remove the content and may leave a brief notice.
Turnaround
- We aim to acknowledge reports within 2 business days and resolve verified issues as quickly as possible, prioritizing safety‑critical topics (e.g., misleading fees).
We maintain an internal change log for material updates.
13) Legal notes (no advice)
Our content is educational and not financial, investment, tax, legal, or insurance advice. Eligibility and approvals are decisions of providers. Always verify key details on the provider’s official page before applying.
